Holiday Spirit Taste Test

Heather Satterfield Heather Satterfield, Marketing Manager

The holidays are fast approaching, which means now’s the time to get your holiday beverages lined up. All of us here at Sysomos want to ensure you are fully prepared. Which is why we used Sysomos Search to see what were the most popular holiday drinks around the globe and taste test them for you. It’s the least we could do to help you limit your stress levels by taking the guess work out of selecting which holiday spirit is best.

We discovered 5 of the top holiday beverages are – egg nog, glühwein, wassail, cola de mono, and coquito. Below are a few details about each of the festive drinks:

Eggnog is the North American contribution to the top holiday beverages. This chilled mix of eggs, sugar, milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla can be spiked for an added punch. It’s a holiday staple for many families here in the US and for some, moose cups are involved.

Glühwein is a European mulled wine that’s popular in Germany. It consists of red wine, orange juice, cloves, cinnamon sticks, and sugar. Since the wine is heated, evaporating some of the alcohol content, many folks in Europe allow their children to drink it. Hey, that’s totally your call!

Cola de mono is a South American holiday beverage traditionally served in Chile. Its literal translation is “monkey’s tail”. While you might get a laugh in serving monkey’s tail to your family, we’re pretty certain it doesn’t taste like actual monkey’s tail, thankfully. If you like coffee you’ll enjoy this one because it includes milk, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and coffee.

Wassail is a hot mulled cider hailing from England as a Medieval drinking ritual. This one can be spiked or served without alcohol. It is a mix of apple cider, pineapple juice, orange juice, lemon juice, cinnamon sticks, sugar, cloves, and apple brandy (how much brandy is up to you, we won’t tell anyone).

Coquito is known as Puerto Rican eggnog. It’s a coconut based Caribbean drink that is usually made with rum, coconut milk, sweet condensed milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and cloves. While it’s normally served with desserts, don’t let that deter you from drinking it at any point during the holiday season.

A few members of the Sysomos Team recently took the time to taste test all 5 beverages for you. We certainly got in the holiday spirit by making and drinking these:
